RE: XP Embedded - Installing Hardware not preinstalled in OS

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Try microsoft validation instead of windows.

So i am working with an HP Thin Client with the latest build of the XPE from
January of this year. I am trying to install a PCI to PCMCIA adapter using
the optional extension and riser card. I verified that the PCI adapter is
working in a desktop and loads properly in XP Pro but embedded seems to be a
whole other issue.

So to give you an idea of what i have had to do with the thin client...

First, I unlocked Windows Update which allowed it to run but i have yet to
get windows genuine advantage and the 3.1 installer to do more than download.
They fail at installing but no error messages explain why.

Next i found the chipset drivers for my adapter, ENE CB 1410, and installed
those onto the machine. This makes my device disapper from the Device
Manager, but does not load it as a PCMCIA device as it does on the desktop i
tested it on.

At some point i was getting and error that said "Required section is not
found in the inf file." So I know that what ever portion of the UPNP is
missing that this device normally uses to install.

Next i searched for the driver that the desktop was using, pcmcia.sys and
put in in the exact same location on the thin client. I rescanned for new
hardware and it failed.

At this point, I am willing to try anything to get this to work. I figure
that if there was a way to extract the UPNP device settings for PCMCIA
devices from a regular install and inject them into embedded might add the
functionality i need.
