What you have to do is take a copy of machine.inf found in your windows root
\inf hidden folder and paste a copy to your desktop. Edit with notepad and
remove the line "ExcludeFromSelect=* ( about line 20) from file; Save it.
then use this file for your driver inf file to reinstall your plug and play
device enumeratior. install a new device find the have disk button browse to
your desktop copy of the machine.inf and choose it. Now under system devices
you will find you plug and play device enumeratior. After its installed,
simply remove one driver at a time and then hit the search changes for each
one. they should all install again to a functioning state.

the site of the device maker to try for a driver download.
If Device Manager fails to see something you expect to have, it's probably
not attached right, or it's broken.

more devices that are displaying a caution icon. The number of items now
showing a caution are both DVD/CD-ROM drives in the drives section,
logitech
QuickCam in imaging devices, Intel PCI Modem, a device called ParVdm, and

device called Serial in the non-plug and play section, a Creative SB
Audigy 2
ZS, and a Creative Game port in the sound, video and game controllers
section, and still no trace of the Plug and play Software Device
enumerator.

I was having some problems with dvd playback so I wrongly assumed that
