Windows XP SP 2 fully updated on a dell machine with a 20in flat panel
screen/built-in webcam,
also dell. Upon restart, Windows Explorer opens with C:\Program Files\Dell
& the following 5 folders,
Dell Webcam Center, Dell Webcam Manager, Digital Jukebox Drivers,
JBSeries2Drv, Media Experience.
When I uninstalled: C:\Program Files\Dell opened without the folders.
When I reinstalled: C:\Program Files\Dell opened with the 5 previously
stated folders.
I would like to fix this before creating a backup disc image. Any
suggestions/ideas ?
Thanks in advance.

The source of this problem could be an incorrectly formatted entry in your
registry. To check on this, download this program from Microsoft.

AutoRuns for Windows v9.13
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx

Once you've extracted the files, launch Autoruns.exe.
In Autoruns, click on the Logon tab.
Look for an entry that launches a Dell program. Look in the Image Path column
for a program that starts in the C:\Program Files\Dell folder.
Right click on this entry and select Jump to from the menu.
You should end up in one of the following locations in the Registry.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

In the right hand pane of the Registry Editor, double click on the entry for
the Dell program.
Enclose the path to the program in double quotes. It should end up looking
similar to this.

"C:\Program Files\Dell\DellProgram.exe"

Take a look at this article for how a similar problem was dealt with.

Thanks for the quick reply. I followed your instructions but could not find
the entry in the registry?

Run Autoruns again.
Click on the Options menu at the top of the screen.
Click on Hide Microsoft Entries.
Next, hit the F5 key to refresh the list. Click on the File menu at the top of
the screen and select Save As.
Name your log file and save it to a handy location.
Open the file in Notepad.
Copy and paste the contents of the log file into a response to this message.
