hp laptop problems getting worse - if normal start - shuts down and restarts
itself - can't read error screen - just flashes before shutdown. Can get
into Safe mode only - tried to run debugging - shut down again - can't get
into F2 to reset factory defaults. HP Pavilion ze5345US, but when I last
looked at system infor was showing ze5300 - had used operating disk to bookt
from CD rom to get it to start at all - did this change system? Tried last
known configuration that worked properly - shut down. Now on, but in safe
mode. PLEASE HELP - all of my pictures are stored on laptop. Did see
something in flash about BIOs - also beginning dump of physical memory. ALL
MESSED UP ---- can't connect to internet on that computer. Have McAfee,
Quicktime, AOL, Office 2003 - if you need more info, please contact me againl

Any help that you offer would be greatly appreciated.

If your laptop is shutting down and restarting, it's probably crashing. If it shuts down and does not restart, that's more of an indication of hardware failure. You need to boot, even into Safe Mode, go to Control Panel, System, the Advanced tab, startup and shutdown, and remove the checkmark from "automatically restart" on system failure. this won't fix anything, but will prevent the restart and allow you to see error messages.

EasyShare is a Kodak product. Remove it, restart, clear out temporary files, defragment, restart, and reinstall.

If you're concerned about your data, and it's a valid concern, it's prudent and easy to back it up. You do need an inexpensive piece of hardware to do this, in the form of a USB2 drive case or connector. These can be had for under $20. You need to get the correct version, IDE or SATA, for the drive type. From the model number it looks like it's an IDE drive. Shut the laptop down, remove the drive, connect it to the case or adapter. Plug that into another XP system and just copy your data off.

While you're doing that, delete the very large file in the root directory, pagefile.sys. This file will be rebuilt as needed, and I have found that removing it can sometimes help in this sort of context.
