Hi. I have changed the network settings on a Windows XP machine and
after rebooting, it no longer lets me logon.
After entering the username and password it tells me "The system could
not log you on. Make sure your username and domain are correct"
The problem was caused when I used the Network setup wizard to change
the network settings from a business network to a home network. I
guess that I have removed the domain settings or something and that it
is now trying to logon to WORKGROUP rather than the domain that it
used to logon to when it was used in the office.
It is a laptop and it has not been in the office for months and it has
not connected to the office network for months. I thought changing it
to a home network would let me share its drives with other machines in
the house.
My question is, how do i get to logon to this machine again? I can't
find an option to let me enter a domain name and even if I could, I
don't know the full name of the domain it used to connect to.
What happen when you boot up the machine and press ALT+CTRL+DEL, do you get
the Drop down. If you do try to log in and delete or Disable the Domain
Account on this machine.
Or try to Join a workgroup then try to Delete the Domain account after
creating a local one.

Hi, when I hit ALT-CTRL-DEL to get the login it does not give me an
option to enter a domain or to select a domain from the drop down. If
I press ALT-CTRL-DEL again nothing comes up. I can;t see a way to get
any further options on the logon screen.
Do you get a drop down list, what is there?.
When this machine was joined to the Domain have you ever been able to use a
Local account on it?, it looks like you have an Image installed!.
What happen if you logged into safe Mode and create a local account.
I cannot see other way other than Reformat and Clean installation of the
Operating system, but you will lose every thing on this machine!.

Do you get a drop down list, what is there?.No, I don't get a drop down list. It only shows the Username and
Password entry box and then buttons "Ok", "Cancel", "Shutdown.." and
"Options <<<".
When I hit the "Options <<<" button it just removes the "Shutdown"
button, It does not show any other options or allows the entry or
selection of a domain.
When this machine was joined to the Domain have you ever been able to use aI always logged in with the same usernam eand password that used to be
Local account on it?
used in the office. I never tried to logon with any other account so I
don;t know is a local account logon was possible
it looks like you have an Image installed!.When you say there is an image installed, what is an Image, what do
you mean?
