Please - is there some way to absolutely remove what is blocking this XP home upgrade from win ME? pcAnywhere 10.0 was removed years ago, I have done the obvious like removing keys from the registry with the words pcAnywhere and Symantec. I then do a text search for these -- and user.dat and system.dat still have these strings even after using regedit to clean them out. Several other files on the machine also have these strings and I have deleted what I felt safe deleting. Some appear to be system files. Thanks
You're mis-informed, PCAnywhere is not an application that blocks other systems such as a firewall would. PCAnywhere is a network application that is used to connect to a remote PC and use it as if you were sitting at the remote PC.
Now if you mean that you have to log in starting with the 3 finger salute when XP gets booted, you need to replace any awgina.dll files with the original msgina.dll files. I still have the registry files from 2004 saved aside for the hives/keys that contained awgina.dll for PCA v10, I now use PCA v11.5 which doesn't replace the msgina.dll with awgina.dll files. I found 7 files, if you would like to look at them for reference I placed them on a temp web page I use. I have changed the extension from .reg to .txt safety purposes and there may be a duplicate or 2 since some came from different machines.
I've placed them at: http://basconotw.mvps.org/inq4.htm
