Why don't you tell us *specifically* exactly WHAT happens when you try
installing WinXP. What error messages do you get? etc, etc, etc
IOW: "insufficient data", as presented.

Please - is there some way to absolutely remove what is blocking this XP
home upgrade from win ME? pcAnywhere 10.0 was removed years ago, I have +
done the obvious like removing keys from the registry with the words
pcAnywhere
and Symantec. I then do a text search for these -- and user.dat and
system.dat still have these strings even after using regedit to clean them
out.
So what? That isn't necessarily the problem here! Again, "insufficient
data".
Several other files on the machine also have these strings and I have
deleted what I felt safe deleting. Some appear to be system files. Thanks
