| ok,
|
| your response is appreciated.
|
| unfortunately, there is no one
| software that catches everything.
|
| further there is no one software
| that not only scans for malware
| but checks for improper first party
| registry entries, removes the temp
| files, defrag, downloads microsoft
| updates, creates system restore
| points and checks for unauthorized
| open ports - "all with a single
| click of a button"
|
| in addition, the online version
| is performed at the users convenience,
| so it doesn't run full time taking up
| resources and requires no yearly
| subscription fee.
|
| further because it is an online utility
| the pc is not hijacked to check for
| software updates and viral definitions.
|
| so as you can see from the above
| i am not easily persuaded.
|
| it is a worthy addition to the
| arsenal and not a replacement.
|
| there is a harddrive made of stone
| and is inscribed with a number of
| rules, one of which pertains to
| anti virals:
|
| "THERE IS NO ONE SOFTWARE
| THAT CATCHES EVERYTHING".
True. But one wants something that catches as much as possible.
An AV solution that catches 90% is preferred over something that catches 60%.
I will also state that Safe Hex is the best way. If you practice Safe Hex then you will
greatly mitigate threats.
I will also state that if you don't practice Safe Hex properly one can supplement a fully
installed anti virus application. That is only one fully installed application that
performs both On Access and On Demand scanning should be installed on any given PC.
However, you can supplement the AV application with addition On Demand scanners. This can
includes On Line scanners, Command line Scanners and GUI based scanners.
Examples:
GUI: The free BitDefender
On Line: Trend House Call
Command Line Scanners: My; Multi AV Scanning Tool.
The reason I include four different Command Line Scanners is because one may catch what
another may miss. In my Multi-AV I include scanners from; Kaspersky, Sophos, McAfee and
Trend Micro.
This may also be supplemented by software such as; SpyBot S&D, Ad-Aware, etc.
