DVD+RW won't write DVD's after XP re-install

Just before re-installing XP, I backed everything up on a bunch of DVD-
RW's with my Plextor PX-800A. Plextor shipped the drive with Roxio 9.
Now, after the re-install, the drive won't allow me to write onto
DVD's, and it won't read all of the formats it is supposed to. Worse,
it won't read the DVD which came with the drive, so I can't re-install
Roxio. When I put a DVD-RW into it and try to erase it, it says that
the erase task stopped prematurely because "windows is using the
drive." It says this when I've nothing open which is using or
referencing the drive at all.
Also, when I insert a Roxio-recorded DVD into the drive I can read
what was written onto it but can't eject it without pressing the
button on the DVD. I close all of the folders referencing it, right
click on the drive icon and select "eject," and nothing happens.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Barb
