Re: repeated blue screen stop error 0x50 page fault
- From: "Gerry" <gerry@xxxxxxxxxx>

Given that you have identified and removed 512 mb defective RAM memory
it becomes pointless to investigate Error Reports which relate to errors
occuring prior to it's removal. If you get any new errors please post
details.
Are you planning to replace the memory removed as Windows XP is unlikely
to run well with only 128 mb installed.

Hope this helps.

Thanks again for your helpful post. These are the errors and warnings
you requested. Most, if not all, are repeated. Information events are
the save dumps. After I removed the 512mb suspect ram, it has run
idle all night and I have been using it for about the last 3 hours,
with no blue screens (yet). application errors (far back as it goes,
to when I was having trouble with the .net framework 3.0, with many
repeats). Thanks again for your assistance.

0x00000050: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
(Click to consult the online MSDN article.)
Requested data was not in memory. An invalid system memory address
was referenced. Defective memory (including main memory, L2 RAM
cache, video RAM) or incompatible software (including remote control
and antivirus software) might cause this Stop message, as may other
hardware problems (e.g., incorrect SCSI termination or a flawed PCI
card).

Check the hard drive for bad sectors by running chkdsk /f /r
Check the System log of Event Viewer for Error Reports.
Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in the
System log in Event Viewer for the last boot. No Information Reports
or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in a previous boot.
You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer.
A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and
double click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which
appears is a button resembling two pages. Click the button and close
Event Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the
body of the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting
from
Event Viewer.
Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?
Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What
drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not
checked.

Hope this helps.

page fault in a non-paged area
event id 1001 (it says there is a log but I can't figure out how to
get to it) and also says something about disabling or removing newly
installed hardware (none) or software (see below) and disable BIOS
memory cache and shadowing (not sure how).
Periodically in the past I have gotten auto re-boot but now happens
every few minutes (same error every time, I believe), so I disabled
the auto re-boot. It will run in safe mode without the stop error.
I spent hours reading here but so far only found rather general
suggestions: suspect bad memory, motherboard or other hardware
failure, malware.
I did find a KB article on checking the driver files for malware,
but didn't find any suspect files. I don't know how to check the
others. Windows defender auto updates and runs every day. I ran
windows live one care virus check a couple of weeks ago. All good.
A couple of weeks ago, a .net framework 3.0 update failed and I had
to get help from MS support to get that resolved. There was also an
update for my AC 97 audio device that caused no audio after install
so I rolled it back and everything seemed fine. I had it where it
would run for days without an error.
A few days ago, I downloaded Hijackthis and shortly after I
downloaded an uninstaller. All seemed fine. I have ATTYahoo dsl so
I've had their newer Norton AV for a few months that wants to run
continuously and has never workred right. I have as much of it
disabled that I can.
I have xp sp2 with an Elitegroup 741GX-M motherboard with an AMD
Athlon and 640mb ram, 40gb hd, 75% full (chkdsk is running now).
It wasn't an expensive computer and is going on 3 years old. About a
year ago, it failed to load the windows loader screen so I attempted
repair with the windows disk and it worked but I've problems since.
I don't really want to buy a new one, since I have so much effort
into it and has all my programs and and files on it, so if I could
nurse it along awhile longer, it would be great, but at some point
I might just have to give up on it.
I thought system restore might be a good idea but I have no idea how
to proceed if that fails. Should I proceed with the instructions on
the blue screen? I'm an older user so not the most computer literate
guy around so any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Latest update: chkdsk ran over night, windows started and ran idle
for 9 hours without a stop error but just now after looking at the
event viewer for a few minutes, same blue screen stop error, page
fault, but with a different 3rd parameter, 0x8054b7c3.
