I installed NET 2.0 some time back, and noticed tonight in "Add/Remove"
that I still have 1.1 installed. I assume it's safe to remove that, but I
wanted to check first - ?
Someone responded:You could but if you run into web sites that are still using 1.1, you won't
be able to access them.
This has nothing to do with accessing web sites with your
browser. .NET 1.1 and 2.0 are runtimes (basic pre-requisite software
pieces) that may be required by Microsoft .NET applications that might
be installed on your system. These could be windows apps, or
hosted .NET web sites running on IIS (if your machine is running a web
server), or some other .NET based services or applications installed
on the system. Unless you are knowledgeable and are need to free
relatively small amounts of disk storage space on your machine, there
is no reason to delete .NET 1.1. Think of it as part of windows that
you may or may not need.
Thanks, Singletracker. Your answer jibes with one I received from an MVP on another group, and I am keeping it.
Tony
