What a great time to use Regedit and try to at least do as suggested in the Microsoft articles and change the source path to point it to the location of the files on the hard drive. You have practically nothing to loose and it may save you from having to do a complete reinstall! If things go hopelessly bad when you try to edit the registry, well what the hell, you were going to reformat the drive anyway so nothing lost!
