Hello;
I have an older machine [5 years] which I want to use for some data back up
Can you explain how you plan to use this machine for data backup? Are
you planning on storing the backup on its hard drive?
If that's the case, using a computer for this sounds like very great
overkill. Far simpler would be to remove its hard drive, buy a USB
drive enclosure (about $20-25 US) and mount the drive in that.
Mounting the drive in the enclosure takes two or three minutes and is
very easy even for someone who is all thumbs.
Then to do a backup, just connect your external drive and copy your
data to it. No second computer needed at all.
and wanted to load an old license of XP Home that I have. The CD came with
SP-1, and so naturally the auto update goes to MS website and gets SP-2.
Tried it twice, and each time Windows XP Home Edition Hangs after
Installation of SP-2. Machine goes through POST, Windows display screen
shows, Windows login screen shows with a "please wait . . . . " in the
upper left hand corner, then screen goes blank, and stays blank.
Tried shutting machine off and restarting, but same thing happens only on
subsequent attempts the login screen doesn't display.
Any thoughts out there short of preventing SP-2 from getting installed.
Thanks,
Nick
