Don't know exactly what you did, but creating a shortcut within the
Office folder, or dragging/sending a shortcut from this folder to the
desktop with or without an assigned shortcut key combination won't
work. As Microsoft notes:
"Shortcut keys work only for shortcuts on the desktop or in the Start
menu hierarchy".

Maybe you did it right, but try the routine of creating a shortcut
directly on the desktop. Right-click on the desktop and click on New
=> Shortcut. Complete the wizard and when the shortcut is created,
right-click on it and click Properties. Type T in the Shortcut Key
box. Try it now.

Glad you got it to go. I too had struggled with this for ages. I found
the MS Article only by accident.
