Re: RAM not recognized

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

The 256 sodimm isn't compatible with the notebook.

If the dimm is a true 256 megabyte sodimm that would make a total of
320mgs of installed system memory.

As outlined, the system only supports 128+64=192. Probably one dimm
slot free with 64 on board.

Got to watch out when buying ram... Bigger isn't always better if your
system doesn't support it.

not very clear in your descriptions.

you might be speaking of 64 meg agp
and perhaps you are referring to
a 256 ram chip. or possibly you
have two chips - one of each above.
in which case maybe the 256 is faulty
and no longer able to process data
eventhough the chip/component
is shown by windows as connected.

there are a multitude of reasons
for your laptop being slow and
it is impossible for us to tell. but
highly likely that the toshiba website
will have more data on your machine
and issues. maybe they have a ram
testing program or other helpful
utilities.

for example, based on the limited
data you provided, you have
some thoughts that memory
might be a cause. however, if
it were possible to increase
your ram to 1 gig, then your
laptop may still be slow anyways.

perhaps you might boot into
safemode and see if there is a
noticeable improvement with
performance. this might be
illuminating towards resolving
your issue.

On my old notebook pc (Toshiba Satellite 2770XDVD PentiumIII 646Mhz, ) it
only recognizes 64.0MB of RAM. It has a 256MB card installed, but it's very
slow. What's wrong with it???
