If you move files from one disk to another, this is the equivalent of creating a copy in the new location AND deleting the original. If something went wrong during the move the files may not have been created on the new disk, but deleted from the old disk.
It is likely that the documents are lost unless you can take the old disk to a specialist recovery service - and that will likely cost you an arm and a leg or two.
