Re: msinfo hangs

I find one at
C:\WINDOWS\inf\msinfo32.inf

set your search to find hidden files, or the system to show them. (folder
options in control panel)

Dear Mark:

Thanks for the speedy response. Please clarify which .inf file. I have
MSInfo32.inf on my hard drive (one is in my c:I386 folde) or is it an
MSinfo.inf that I'd have to find on my Media Center reinstallation disk?
I
can generate a .nfo file if I use switches, but it takes over 15 minutes
and
I don't think that's normal.

In XP you can just rightclick the INF file, and click "Install"

Mark: You say "insert your Microsoft Windows 98...disk." Isn't this
an
XP
forum? I have this issue also where MSINFO32 hangs and doesn't seem to
generate a complete .nfo file, although everything in the program
itself
seems fine and complete. Does this same process work with an XP Media
Center
reinstallation disk?

THANKS in advance.

manually reinstall Microsoft System Information. To do this, follow
these
steps: 1. Insert your Microsoft Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second
Edition
compact disc (CD) into your CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. In the Run box, type the following line, and then click OK:
rundll.exe setupx.dll,InstallHinfSection Msinfo.reg 64
C:\windows\inf\msinfo.inf
4. Repeat step 2 and step 3 for each of the following lines:
rundll.exe setupx.dll,InstallHinfSection Msinfo2.reg 64
C:\windows\inf\msinfo.inf
rundll.exe setupx.dll,InstallHinfSection CDM.base 64
C:\windows\inf\msinfo.inf
rundll.exe setupx.dll,InstallHinfSection sigver.base 64
C:\windows\inf\msinfo.inf
5. Restart your computer.
