CD Rom Problem

Hi,
I have a Dell Dimension 2400 PC. (XP Home)

A while back the icon for the dive just disappeared from the system.


I assumed the drive had reached the end of its time!! And went and
bought a replacement.
It wont seem to install correctly either.
Its a Samsung SH-S202H (New one, the original one was a Samsung
SM-348)


In the BIOS setup it recognises the drive but says its not installed.


I have posted this on the Hardware forums but i'm starting to think
that as the drive clearly has power, and when you insert a disk you
can hear it spinning that maybe its more of a software issue.

I would like to reinstall XP as well, but as I have no C.D. drive I
cant!!
Does anyone know about reinstalling with floppy disks? As far as I
know it can be dont but I have never done it and dont want to chance
it without some knowledge of it!!!

Does anyone have any Ideas?
