Re: How do I turn off the little info boxes that appear on mouseov

Hi Mark,

Let me break this down per your reply...

You have to be kidding.<<
No sir, not at all.

They send software to the marketplace before it is completely vetted and
we end up dealing with constant annoyances such as these balloons.<<

I agree about the balloons being a annoyance, but you have to look beyond
just what you, myself and others think. They are useful for beginners and
casual users who do not care nor need to learn the innards of windows. I've
had beginners ask what the Start button was and what does it do.

The balloons are a clear indication of how careless they are with their
software design to make their stock price grow.<<

Sorry I can't agree here. You already stated how bloated windows was. If
they give an option to turn them ALL off and I'm talking about everything,
then how much more code would be needed? and if they did then you have more
bloat. I'm not clear what you mean by making their stock price grow unless
you are saying you think their releasing windows to early in your opinion.

Why do we need to have Microsoft tell us we are pointing at an MSWord
document when the item the mouse is pointing at is an MSWord symbol?<<

Again I agree, but this takes us back to beginners. Also not all symbols
have a clear indication what the file is. If you look at a ".com" file, to
many users they would have no idea what that is. With the balloons enabled
it will tell them it's a MS-Dos Application.

And your comment suggests that I am the only one who has
complained about this. Search "balloon" on this discussion board<<

Well I surely do apologize for that and it wasn't meant to single you out. I
was only trying to explain that if MS added everything that myself, you and
millions of others would like, then imagine how bloated windows would be.

Hi Mark,

Well at least they did include a feature to turn them off, right?
Think about what you said, and I do understand your frustration, but if
MS
could possibly think about what all users would like then Windows would
be
so bloated, more so than it already is, we wouldn't even have a operating
system :>)

If they added everything you would like to have, even the simple things,
and
you multiply that by the millions of users, can you imagine what Windows
would look like today. Again I understand your frustration, but I think
they
have done a great job over the years and they do listen.

I can not believe that Microsoft included this feature with out a toggle
switch. These balloon tips are useless 99% of the time and annoying
100%
of
the time. And the only way to eliminate them is to hack their program
or
download a routine from a source I do not know. Pure Microsoft and pure
Bill
Gates. I suggest Microsoft add a way to turn off these annoying
ballons.

I'm talking about when I have WinExplorer open and whenever my
mouse
pointer hovers over a file a little yellowish window pops up
telling
me about the file. I dont want this, is there a way to turn that
off?
I have XP setup to display in classic mode if that makes a
difference
(dont like rounded corners). Stuff drives me nuts
