Windows HomeXP 512 MEG RAM
AMD Athalone 2100
When I try to restart or shut down I keep getting the Program not
responding
box and the program is IEEXPLORE.EXE. This happens while I have closed
all programs and am at the desktop. Sometimes I have to click the close
button a dozen times to get a reboot. I just usually just hit the on off
switch after two or three attempts to close down properly.
Well, Internet Explorer's filename is iexplore.exe, not IEEXPLORE.EXE. You
might be infected.
Some anti-malware to try:
Spybot S&D
Lavasoft Ad-Aware
Grisoft AVG AntiSpwyare (was ewido), and their AntiRootkit
SUPERAntispyware
HijackThis (doesn't fix anything but points at possible infect points)
Do you have an anti-virus program installed? If not, try:
Avira AntiVir
Grisoft AVG
Avast AntiVirus

I made a typo it should have read IEXPLORE.exe.
I am not infected with anything I have been running anti spyware and
anti-virus for years and am VERY diligent about keeping crap off the box.
