Perhaps an external hd, which you remove might be an advantage?

Well, the setting in IE, tools, Options, Advanced tab checkbox for clearing
the Temp Internet Files is a good start. Setting History to zero days, then
setting the date ahead to reboot will remove history, (set date back). Of
course the best cover is one of those military deletion programs that
overwrites the disk with one's and zeros several times to make data recovery
impossible. How much data removal you need depends on how paranoid you are.
I am VERY paranoid and only use mozilla and firefox btw.

Where can I get one of those military erase programs?

I'd like it to write over the data 10 times if possible.

The amount and type of stuff I have is embarrassing even to me.

Please help [thanks for the help already]

Ever checked what is stored in the registry? An external HD is not enough. clearing temp files is not enough, clearing internet history is not enough.

You need an external HD for the files, AND reinstalling windows on a formatted partition to be sure. Maybe installing Windows as a virtual machine would do the trick, or you could install Ubuntu on top of your Windows, surf from Ubuntu and reload it after every visit on the net. Reloading Ubuntu takes a few minutes, you get a clean *** every time, and nothing at all shows in your windows OS.

It appears it's Linux based, that scares me. I used Linux, perhaps 10
years ago and then went back to winBlows.

Is it as hard to navigate now?

In the computer world 10 years is a long time! It's time to try it again and with live CDs, it's easy to try without altering your machine. Navigating is as easy as it is in Windows.
