Death after logo

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

(Sometimes) when I boot up, I see the Windows logo with the blue progress
bar, then it fades to black. Doesn't get to the "Welcome" screen. Sometimes
it boots just fine.

Running Defrag and Ckdsk helps, but is not a cure.

Anyone know what could be causeing this? suggestions?
