Re: Outlook Express locking up - out of memory

Steve

In Outlook Express place the cursor on Local Folders and select File,
Work Offline followed by File, Folder, Compact All. Do not attempt to
interupt or stop the process until it has completed.

How large are your Inbox.dbx, Sent Items. dbx and Deleted Items. dbx
files? Ascertain the file path to the Store Folder -Tools, Options,
Maintenance, Store Folder. Close Outlook Express.

Go to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings and
verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked
and "Hide protected operating system files " is unchecked. You may need
to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that
the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked.
Next in Windows Explorer make sure View, Details is selected and then
select View, Choose Details and check before Name, Type, Total Size, and
Free Space.

In Windows Explorer using the file path obtained earlier locate the
Inbox.dbx, Sent Items. dbx and Deleted Items. dbx files and note their
size. In Outlook Express create a a new folder by placing the cursor on
Local Folder and select File, Folder, New. Give the folder a name e.g.
AAInbox and move messages from your Inbox there. Same applies to Sent
Items. Otherwise regularly empty your Deleted Items folder.

After compacting and you are sure there have been no problems empty the
Recycle Bin and run Disk Defragmenter.

Since a re-install of my pc and application of all hotfixes, I have
been plagued with Outlook Express locking and saying there is
insufficient memory.

I managed to find a few articles which suggested this was a fairly
widespread issue.

Does anyone know if there has been any fix yet? Or could perhaps
point me to a discussion on the issue.

Thanks
