What is the position regarding data files? Do you have an existing
backup or are there important files at risk? Is this your only computer
or do you have another computer where you could put the hard drive in as
a slave drive to recover the data?

Have you made any hardware or software changes immediately before the
problem first arose?

Is System Restore likely to have a restore point predating the problem?

How did you acquire the SP2 update? Was it by download or from an SP2
CD?

Does the computer boot in Safe Mode if you disconnect all peripherals,
except the keyboard. mouse and monitor?

What was the computer doing overnight before the you discovered the
error?

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties,
Advanced, Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box
before Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure even after you
have solved the problem as it's better disabled. Check for variants
of the Stop Error message.

An alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and
select option - Disable automatic restart on system failure.

If you are using a wireless keyboard and the F8 key does not work
substitute a wired keyboard and mouse for this exercise only.

I woke up this morning to find the blue screen of death with this
error: stop: 0x0000007e (0x0000005, 0x806b695f, 0xbacc7744,

Now my system will not boot without this error. I have tried
booting into safe mode, but the system restarts half way through
the boot into safe mode. Anyone have any ideas, I have been a
efficient windows user since the late 80's and I know my way
around, but this is something new. Any help would be deeply
appreciated.
