thanks, but i'm no computer whizz kid.. i don't have cd's u mention. i have a
laptop can i do anything from here to sort out the pc that has the error on

because the following file is missing or

you can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the
original setup cd rom...
I have this message on my other pc but don't have cd rom as was already
installed onto it....
can anyone help to fix this

With the reference to the MS KB article in the post from Shenan Stanley, you
can use other bootable CDs to get to the filesystem and perform the file
operations as directed. You can also use Linux boot CDs, for example, and
as well, you can remove and attach the drive to another system and reach the
same goals.
