Real Player... yuck! The thought makes me shudder...

As you already know, you need a player to read/watch DVD's, if Real
Player cannot play them try Windows Media Player or try another one of
the many available players out there. If other players don't work I
think you should probably start a new thread for this question, it is a
completely different subject than what was being addressed in this
thread and the DVD experts (which I am not!) might not even be reading
this thread because they are thinking it has nothing to do with DVD's.

Tip: Give the subject line in your post a meaningful title, it will
attract more experts or address a target group of helpers. Many experts
and helpers here are busy with all kinds of other things. When they
read these help groups they may be monitoring 20, or even 50 groups! If
they only have an hour or so to pass and read the posts they may skip
over many posts that they deem to not be in their field of expertise, or
they may skip over many posts with vague subject matter. In the case of
the current thread a DVD expert may have looked at it the first time you
posted and decided that it was out of their area of expertise, or that
you were getting good help from other respondents, they may skip over
the posts the next time you post.

If you give your new post a meaningful subject line like: "Cannot
Read/Play DVD Movies" the experts out there will be interested in your
post and they will read and reply if they think that they can offer
helpful advice, the other ones who know little about playing DVD's and
who only have a short bit of time to peruse the groups will be able to
skip the post without your losing potential expert help.

Regards;

John

I finally got it to work I took a few but i am up and running now thanks for
all your help it is good to know that there are people out there like you for
people like me.
Now for the next question. How do i get my internal dvd/cd-rom and external
to read dvds. They are trying to read them but they are not loading. I have
realplayer version 11(build 6.0.14.550) distrobution RN40PD and WMP 9. Got
any ideas why they are not reading dvds?

Start your computer and tap F8 before boot logo.

Select 'Command Prompt' and then press Enter. Choose the OS you want
to start.
Login to Windows XP as an administrator.
At the command prompt, type in:

FORMAT C:

That will not work, John. You cannot format the System or Boot volumes
of the Windows installation onto which you are logged on. Using any of
the boot option by tapping the F8 key will log you on to the Windows
installation.

John

Well, I'm out of ideas.
