Re: Mouse button problem

I assume you have rebooted since the problem started, right? Something
easy to try: control panel, mouse, buttons tab: try switching the
functionality of the mouse buttons and see if the same problem occurs but
with the opposite buttons. Then return to the original setting. Sometimes
toggling between settings will clear out an unwanted gremlin. If no luck,
do you have a restore point that is earlier than the onset of the problem?

I have a bizarre mouse problem. It has been working well up until
recently. Now, when I left click on the desktop or an icon it
registers as a right click and brings up the right click menu. When I
right click, nothing happens. The scroll wheel and third button also
do not work. I have tried changing to another mouse, but it has the
same effect. I have tried plugging in through an adapter into the PS2
port (both mice I tried were USB), but the same problem happens. I am
running Windows XP home and have been having lots of BSOD crashes
recently, which I think I have narrowed down to temperature issues, but
that appears to be resolved now (I took the panel off the side). The
mouse will work in some programs (but never the right mouse button),
but displays this bizarre behaviour in the windows desktop.

I have tried uninstalling the mouse and having the computer autodetect
it again, to no avail. I have tried updating, reinstalling and rolling
back mouse drivers, to no avail. I haven't found anyone yet on the net
with the same problem.

Any ideas?
