Have a Toshiba Satellite laptop about 2 years old with WinXP. DSl
working 1 day next day not working, also the dialup does not work.
Haven't made any changes or install any applications in a long
time.
Laptop came with
1. realtec ethernet
2. atheros network adapter
3. ac97 datafax softmodem
On the dsl modem are 3 lights that are lit and no dialog box telling
me that I'm not connected to the internet. When I try to access a web
page, the activity light on the modem never comes on and all I get
is a "IE cannot display webpage" page. The dsl modem does
works because I'm using it with my desktop to send this message.
Any help or ideas on why my dsl with the laptop doe not work
will be appreciated.

If it's a PPoE or PPoA connection, it needs to dial a specific number to connect. In that case, you'll need to install the same software from the DSL company as you installed to the Desktop.
Also try these.
Flush DNS
Click Start, Run, type:
IPConfig /FlushDNS [Press Enter key]
NETSH
Click Start, Run, type:
netsh winsock reset
Press Enter key
Restart the system
You can also try this software download from a working machine:
LSP-Fix
