What is your computer make and model?
What is your Windows XP CD? How is it described on the face of the CD?

Hope this helps.

When I try booting my laptop into XP it gets as far as the Windows XP
text with the bar across the bottom and then goes blank. I have tried
F8 Safe Mode (all three types) and Last known good configuration. But
the outcome is still the same. Then I tried with an XP disk, due to
the setup of the laptop BIOS I am unable to successfully force the
laptop to boot from the CD and so cannot run the recovery (R) process.
Here is the twist in the story though, if I have the XP disk in the
drive and the laptop does a scan of the Hard Disks it will then boot
up successfully into XP. When I shutdown and reboot as normal, it
doesn't work again.
At present I am running a defrag to see it will help. Any ideas would
be appreciated.
