If your computer came with a Software CD, I would look for Drivers on
it. The reason
you are still getting a message about unknown PCI device is that the
driver for it has not
been installed. This can be done by going into Device Manager and rt
click on the PCI
Device that has a yellow mark next to it. Choose reinstall driver and
point it to the
Cdrom Drive using Browse.

Q:
How do I install the scanner software in my PC?
A: You must install your software before connecting the scanner to
your computer. Be sure to close all open applications and turn off any
virus protection programs.
1. Insert the scanner software CD-ROM in a CD-ROM or DVD drive. The
installer starts automatically. If it doesn't, double-click My Computer
(in Windows XP, click Start, then double-click My Computer), double-click
the EPSON CD-ROM icon, then double-click the Epson icon.
2. When you see a message asking you to disable anti-virus
software, click 'Continue'.
3. Read the license agreement, then click 'Agree'.
4. At the Software Installation screen, click 'Install'.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install each application.
After each one is installed, click 'Next' to continue. Note that EPSON
Smart PanelT installs in several steps.
If you have PDA software on your computer, Presto! PixExpress will
be installed. Please wait until the process is complete. If you don't
currently have a PDA, Presto! PixExpress can be added at a later time if
you get one.
6. When you see a message 'Would you like a link to Epson's Photo
Sharing web site to appear on your desktop?' click 'Yes' or 'No'.
7. On the next screen click 'Exit'. The Epson product registration
screen appears.
8. Register your scanner as instructed.
9. At the last screen, click 'Done' or close your browser. You'll
see a message instructing you to connect the scanner. Make sure the
transportation lock is unlocked then connect the AC adapter and USB
cable.

I had a major upgrade to my PC which included a complete reinstall of XP
Pro. Everything is now working except my Epsom Perfection 1660 scanner.
Every time that I turn the machine on I get the message that a new PCI
devise has been detected. I try to install from the disc but the
scanner doesn't work & 'device manager' always shown a yellow flag. I
can't get it to install the driver from 'device manager'.
My careful observation I see that connecting the scanner to a USB2 slot
causes the second USB slot to display 'unknown devise. I would have
thought that it would have come up elsewhere on the list. Even though
the old driver had always worked I downloaded a newer driver & tried
installing this but even hough it appears to install it can't detect the
scanner when I plug it into a USB port. What else can I try?
Thanks in advance
I still get a message about an unknown pci devise howver & I haven't any
idea as to what it is.
