I'm running WinXP with service pack 2 and need to know if this version of
Windows comes with a answering machine. I've also tried to place outgoing
calls with the Widows Phone Dialer but am unable to hear any sound with
my
headset but can faintly hear the modem when it dials without the headset.
==============
XP does not come with any kind of answering machine. In the first
instance
this requires a modem with voice capabilities, and not all modems have
these
functions.
Voice modems often come with the kind of sofware you are asking about.
So, the place you need to start looking is for a new modem with Voice
features.

Thanks for the detail. The user's manual for that says explicitly,
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/comm/p46851/en/intro.htm
"This modem does not support voice or digital private branch exchange (PBX).
"
So you will definitely need another modem that DOES support Voice, and it
should come with the software you seek.
