Hello,
maybe a stupid thought - but have you hidden the extensions for known file types (Explorer window -> Tools -> Folder options -> View -> uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"?

It is not in my system32 folder in a recognizable form I.E. Does not have '.exe' However when I click start---run and type in dxdiag it runs..

C:\windows\system32\dxdiag.exe
is the path you need.
