Re: Major Lagging-help!

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Yes I looked in task manager and at the bottom of her's says System and
System Idle Process and the usage wavers between the two but much of
the usage is by System-I have looked at everything else on task manager
and the usage by everything else is MINIMAL. What I mean is by less
than 5% when sitting idle (rather when it's SUPPOSED to be sitting
idle).

I have no idea what all you want but here is what I know is on the
computer-which I bought in Oct 2000 (it came with ME-ewwwwwwwwww-hated
it!)

-upgraded to XP in 2002
-512 MB RAM
-564 MHz Intel Celeron Processor
-40 GB Hard Drive
-has a Sony CR-RW (52x/32x/52x)
-ESS Allegro PCI Audio (I assume this is the card ???)
I don't know where to look for a lot of other stuff-sorry-when it
comes to this part of a computer-I have to be guided! LOL If you need
any other info please let me know (you may have to tell me where to
look!)

It went to that screen where you had the choice to go to safe mode
(3
options there) then there was the option to restart the computer
with
the last known configuration and then of course there is the normal
startup option. It took several reboots and selecting last known
configuration to get the computer up. I did remove Norton
completely
off the computer and installed AVG. However the CPU is STILL
running
extremely high ALL the time-lag is so bad that it takes forever for
anything to get accomplished. I don't know what to do. I thought
about reformatting the computer but don't really want to go that far
but will if necessary.
BTW I didn't try the safe mode because I didn't know if I should or
not. Please advise!!!
