Strange "Network Cable Unplugged" if auto-logon disabled

Hello,
First of all, Under XP SP2 Pro (version 2002), i didn't understand
how
weird is that situation. If i auto-logon XP without prompting
password, although my physical connection is fine (verified, i can
browse fine, LED lights) i always get "network cable unplugged" after
every BOOT-UP in XP.

Never had that problem with the same drivers and hardware
configuration under W2k Pro.

The XP installation is clean and tried all of things such as trying
different CAT cable or repairing Winsocks or adjusting IP settings.

The only solution is putting password prompt before XP.

I didn't had that issue on another computer which runs in auto-logon
mode.

I also suspect it might be a driver issue but no newer driver has been
released.

I also want to know that: Does XP prepare/initilaze "network
connections" before logging on, or after logging on??? Because i'm
sure that W2k prepares before entering OS.

Please clarify and share experiences.

Thanks for your help
