Often time that is a sign the the file system on the drive is corrupt, you can run a chkdsk on it and see if it can repair it. Be advised that there is always a risk of data loss when you run chkdsk.

Patrick, thank you for your reply. Yes I'm already on C:\ Drive but If I type any command here, I got the access denied error..
What is really weird is that when I hit R to use repair console, it doesn't ask for installation to be repair or admin password, it just goes staigh to C:\drive

I have a corrupted register and my pc is not booting. I have installed win XP professional. When I boot from CD and type R to use recovery console It goes to C: dirve. Then I try to execute the command " md tmp" to create a back up folder but I got error message. "Access Denied" it seams like I don't have permissions to acces this drive, but it never ask me for admin password.
My initial problem is Error message. Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt \windows\system32\config\system
I'm I missing any thing here why is it giving me access denied error message? And how can I work around this error.
Some body please help
Thanks
