Re: Changing default email program

Try repairing Outlook. In Outlook, on the Help menu, click Detect and Repair.

I repeat--on my operating system there is no option to check Outlook as the
default.

The steps I posted earlier does not set the default browser (to IE). So you can try that.

Well, there are two problems with this. (First, perhaps I should have
mentioned, I'm running XP 2003.) First, I distinctly remember that when I
changed it to OE the only way to make it work was to do safe mode. But the
second problem is that when you click set program access/defaults, either in
safe mode or in normal mode, checking Outlook as your mail client is not one
of the options that comes up. A further problem: I don't want IE as my
default browser (one option is to check all Windows defaults.) So I need
another suggestion, thanks.

Hi DK,

You don't have to goto Safe mode to set your default mail client. Open Internet Explorer/Tools/Internet Options/Programs tab. Select your mail client there.

A few months ago I got some good advice on how to change my default email
from outlook to outlook express, in order to make outlook express open when
there was a mail link on Mozilla. Now, alas, my OE has developed problems
(perhaps because it was too full) and I'm changing back to Outlook. I tried
to change the default back roughly the same way I changed it the first
time--by restarting in Safe mode and then clicking program access and
defaults--but the option I was looking for was not there. Can anyone help?
Thanks.
