Is this a new laptop that came with Vista installed on it? If so, and before you remove Vista, you should make sure that all the necessary drivers are available for Windows XP! To remove Vista simply boot with the Windows XP setup cd and at the disk/partition selection screen select to option to format the partition on which Vista is installed.
