PowerPoint files and Outlook Express

A friend of mine has PowerPoint Reader installed. When he receives an email
(using Outlook Express) with a PPS file attached he cannot get it to display
by double clicking on it. When he does that he gets the message that he
doesnot have the relevant program installed. He then saves the attachment to
a specified folder and, by double clicking on in ( useing Windows Explorer)
he can read its contents which are displayed. This is a long winded process
and surely is not necessary. He has been told that to fix the problem he has
to install Microsoft Office with Power Point ( not Power Point Reader as he
has now).
He has gone through the file association routine to no avail. Clearly pps
files are associated with PowerPoint reader.
Can anyone help ???
