It would be a plus if you would mention what you've tried to prevent repeats by those who respond.
Anyhoo:
Right click the desktop.
In the popup menu click "Arrange icons by" > uncheck "AutoArrange" if selected.

Mostly solved, thanks...see below...but...
Only one problem left, I can't move icons where I had them
in various parts of the desktop.
They are all bunched up on the left side, like little soldiers.
How to make them movable again?
I did hunt a few options, but the icons pop back into line again.

To reverse the procedure, place your keyboard flat on the item you
laid flat on it. <S>
Uh huh :-)
Levity aside:
Press Ctrl+Alt+Down Arrow key or Side Arrow key.
Thanks, that changed the screen back to upsideup.
Look through the separate tabs/menus for anything related to "Enable
Screen Rotation" Once the screen is upright Disable screen rotation.
I found this and disabled rotation, thanks again!

Laptop with xp sp2.
I put something flat down on the keyboard, and next thing
I knew the desktop is upside down! Everything opens upside down.
How to fix, please?
