when I have been on my computer for too long it wont shut down. it's a hp
that runs on windows xp. I have done a system restore(f10) and it also has ca

momement. when its been running fo too long( it doesn't matter wehther I've
been on the internet or not) it will not shut down. I click on start, turn of
computer, it statrs to shut down, gets to my desk top screen then freezes.
what can I do to fix this problem?
Sounds like some program or process is preventing XP from shutting
down. Try closing all open programs including antivirus, firewall,
etc. Then right-click on your taskbar, task manager, applications and
see if any programs are still running. If so, hi-light the program and
click end task.
Also, click on Start, run, type in msconfig and click OK, or hit
enter. In the system configuration utility click on the Startup tab.
Every program that has a check beside it is starting when you start
windows. Uncheck anything you don't need to start automatically. If
you don't know what something is I'd advise not unchecking it until
you find out. Don't uncheck anything from C:\windows\system32 or C:
\windows unless you're positively sure it's not a necessary Windows
file.
After you've made changes and reboot your computer a window will popup
saying there have been changes in the system config. Check: "Don't
show this message or launch the system config again."
