I don't think it is responsible or considerate for MIcrosoft to deprive its
users of an importan tool which is of burning and viewing burned data on
CDs. Many have made backups of their systems on CD-Rs but will be
surprised
when they pop that CD and find NOTHING after they install SP2. Also we
are
surprised when we want to burn a cd and find that now it is impossible.
The
CD drive works in all other respects.
I am using a Sony Vaio PCG-NV170, XP Professional SP2, DVD/CD-RW Drive

I've never seen anything that says Microsoft believes this is a problem with
their software. Other then personal opinions have you run across something
official that does? They won't make any effort to fix something that they
don't consider a problem. I've seen lots of posts here asking for help on
DVD or CD drives not working but no real solution to it.
