I don't think it is responsible or considerate for MIcrosoft to deprive itsHi,
users of an importan tool which is of burning and viewing burned data on
CDs. Many have made backups of their systems on CD-Rs but will be
surprised
when they pop that CD and find NOTHING after they install SP2. Also we
are
surprised when we want to burn a cd and find that now it is impossible.
The
CD drive works in all other respects.
I am using a Sony Vaio PCG-NV170, XP Professional SP2, DVD/CD-RW Drive

My first thought would be to check to see if the IMAPI service is running.
To do this, right click on My Computer and select Manage. Then on the left
hand side, choose Services and Applications, then Services. Scroll down to
the IMAPI service and double click it. If it has stopped, start it by
clicking on Start. Also, choose Automatic from the drop down list.
Clickout of everything and see if you can burn a CD now.
Please report back here and let us know if that worked for you.
