Re: Msconfig error

I have:
Windows XP sp2
a Gateway 530x machine
2 gig of ram
Mcafee Security Center for anti virus

When I go into Msconfig I remove/add something to the startup I get this message: "An access denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an administrator account to make the specific cHnages."
I get this error in safe mode as well using the admionstrator account. I am the only administrator on the computer-I have a guest acount set up. It seems to make the changes in Msconfig ok-I just get this annoying error that I have to click OK to get rid of. I did a virus scam, a system restore, updates and tried all I know how to do. Please help.
Joe

If you ignore the error and reboot, did the setting that you changed actually get changed? I've seen that bogus error prompt many times but the change still occurs after the reboot. For example, if I disable a startup item and reboot, that item is still listed as disabled and it didn't load on Windows startup.
