The Print Spooler service started successfully after running the command to modify the dependency.
Thanks for your help.

Open a Command Prompt and issue the following command:
sc config spooler depend= RPCSS
Note that there is a space after the = but none before. After you run the command try restarting the spooler with this command:
net start spooler
If that doesn't fix things you may need to thoroughly clean the print spooler. You can use the Resource Kit's Cleanspl.exe to do this:
Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9d467a69-57ff-4ae7-96ee-b18c4790cffd&DisplayLang=en
or do it manually:
"Spooler subsystem app has encountered a problem and needs to close" and "Operation could not be completed" error messages
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324757
Bruce Sanderson has a very good help page for these kinds of problems:

RPC is set to start automatically, and is on.
I had previously installed the Lexmark X1180. It worked fine, but then I un-installed the drivers and removed the printer. Everything still worked fine, and I was able to use another printer, (HP Deskjet 720c) over a LAN connection, but then the print spooler error started. I can't install the Lexmark drivers again as it says it requires the Print Spooler to be running.

The print spooler depends on the Remote Procedure Call (RPC). Make sure that both of those are set to Automatic Start. Do you now or did you ever have a Lexmark or Dell printer installed on the computer? Lexmark printers change the spooler dependencies.

Hello,
My "Print Spooler Service" will not start.
It does not start with windows while booting, but I do not receive an error message.
I have tried to start it manually, (Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Component Services/ right click Print Spooler and click start), however I get the following error message:
"Could not start the Print Spooler service on Local Computer.
Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start"
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Memorex.
