DVD-RW Drive(E:) icon open but no display the content of the cd or dvd media

The problem start when play slow an intermitent in Windows Media Player 10.
When I restart the system again, try to open the dvd icon result in no
display of the cd or dvd content, as usual i try with other dvds and cds
with the same result.
Replace the drive unit no solve the problem. Unistall the unit with
Device Manager at system in CP restore the drivers at boot up but without
effect.
The properties on Windows Explorer display for the DVD-RW Drive (E:) icon
Type: Cd Drive, File System: Unknown
All atemps to display the files always result in a blank windows at the
right in Window Explorer, no erros are returned.

XP Version 2002 Service Pack 2
Compaq Presario SR1711NX
DVD RW : LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-160H6S
DVD Region =1
Installed Drivers on Windows System 32\Drivers
cdrom.sys
