I always routinely defragment and never had a problem. After running the
analyze in maintenence program it said files should be defragmented. upon
completion the report said files could not be defragmented \documents and
settings\local file size5.89gb fragments 3. I am not too computer savy and
am not sure how to correct it. Could I have some bad sectors on my hard drive
and how do I check this?

Please keep your post to one thread and answer the helper, who give you a
good advice if you follow it.
Try this and post back to your old thread please:
Run Disk Clean Up on your Drive, Empty your Recycle Bin and scan for malware
on your system.
Also when you post back to your old thread mentioned these:
- How much Disk Space you have on your HDD
- How much RAM installed (is it 256 or 512 MBs)
- How big is your My Documents Folder and how much files is there.
HTH.
