RE: Webcam installation problem

Hi Nass,

Thanks again for your valuable advice.

I did what you advised me to do apart from installing the driver that is not
available (the link you provided is not the producer of the camera).

I have found a driver that I thought could work on this website:
http://forums.driverguide.com/showthread.php?t=22525
but I had no luck again after installing it.
My webcam is not exacly the one in the link above but I believe the hardware
is the same.

You can find the webcam I bought in the link below:
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1092377447.1178480384@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccfaddkldmhggecflgceggdhhmdgmj.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=020715&category_oid=

I searched for the right driver on the internet but with no luck.

I still see this error message on the driver window:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

I believe my computer works perfectly. Can the camera be not compatilble
with my laptop?
The camera is sold by "Dixons" one of the main technlogy retailers in
Eurpore. Advent is their own brand but is produced by external suppliers. The
don't offer any assistance with this product but is not a "odd" product of
some unknow chinese supplier so I think the chances of not working on sofware
compatibility grounds should be limited.

Have you got a last suggestion for me before I return the camera and ask my
money back?
Do you have a driver to install that might work with my webcam?

Thank you very much again

Hi Trader,
Try this:
Open Windows Explorer and locate these folders and delete the temp:
C:\Windows\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content IE.5 = Delete the folders
in the Right Pane/Window by pressing Shift + Delete Keys.

Run Disk Clean Up and Defrag in Safe Mode then Open a run command and type
this command in:
sfc /scannow click [OK] and Let it run, you may need XP CD handy.

Download the driver again from the manufacturer site which I think this one:
http://www.sonix.com
You will provide your e-mail and they will send the driver for you, install
the Software then Attach the Camera to the computer .

Hi Nass,

Great suggestion thank you very much
Unfortunately it didn't fix my problem.
The IRQ tab for the camera is not there!
I can see it for the mouse and it says: "no conflict".
I suppose the camera didn't install at all.
I tried to uninstall the camera program, restart the computer, reinstall it,
reinstall the webcam and I get the usual error: "problem during installation,
your device might not work". (thanks Patrick for your suggestions)

I tried to plug in the ipod of one of my friends and it installed properly!

My computer seems to work perfectly these days...

In the driver menu after installing the camera under "imaging devices" I see
2 USB video devices folders appearing with an exclamation mark over it.

I am in despair....have you got any suggestion?

I suppose it is not worth to format my disk....before I should try with a
different brand of camera. Why it works on my friend computer?

My laptop was bought in Italy while I bought the camera in the UK but I
believe the standards are the same, and anyway I have windows XP English
edition installed. I have all the windows updates.

Please let me know.

Thanks

I cannot install the webcam Advent ADE-13 (I believe produced by Sonix)

PROBLEM:
I bought the web cam (Advent ADE-13). I pluged it in my laptop, the laptop
recognised it but then showed a message saying: "there was a problem with the
installation of the new hardware, this hardware might not work properly".
And in fact it doesn't work!!!

I have XP pack 2.
I have no problems to USB ports and other USB peripherals works perfectly.
The camera works on another laptops and I have already exchanged it with a
new one in the shop where i bought it.
Clearly the camera works and is supposed to be compatible with my version of
XP.

I go in to control panel - system - hardware - drivers...I see the driver
with a yellow question mark on it.
I tried to reinstall it with no results.

I have to say in the past, after a virus that was immediately spotted and
removed by Norton, I had some problems (the background was not active) and I
had to change the registry to fix it (I found easy instructions to fix the
problem on Microsoft website). After that sometimes when starting my laptop
it crashes and I have to turn it off and try again. But apart from that my
computer work perfectly and never crashes!!!

Is reinstalling Windows my only option?

I would really appreciate your opinion

Thanks

Your camera is conflicting with another Device in the IRQ, like your Mouse
or printer, Keyboard..etc
Try to change the IRQ used by the camera by Right click the Camera in the
Device Manager and select Properties and there click on Resources and select
another IRQ, but click on General tab first and you will see if there is a
conflict under the Device status, it will tell if any.
