My suggestion...
Never let Sun Java do an auto-update. Always download the full EXE installation file and
manually install Sun Java.
Thanks, Dave. I shall remember in future. I am now up and running
with 6.0_01. I found, from add/delete programs, that I had four
previous versions installed. After I had uninstalled them the file
for the immediately-previous version was still in program files/Java,
so I deleted it, cleaned up the registry with System Mechanic and then
downloaded the latest version for an offline install. That worked
without a hitch.
