I am unsure of whether it is the order of the files on your desktop
that you want changed or the ones inside your documents folder.
Yet whichever is the case, right click where you want to change the
order (i.e. in an empty area in your documents folder or on your
desktop), and select 'Arange Icons By'... this will provide you with a
sub-menu, allowing you to change the sorting accordingly.
