I have a Pentium 4 motherboard with an onboard Intel 82845 graphics
chip set. I recently purchased a 20" LCD monitor that natively
supports 1680x1050.

Is there any way to get the 82845 chipset to support 1680x1050?

Buying a new graphics card is not an option right now. The
motherboard doesn't have an AGP slot, and I can't afford the cost
of a new motherboard at this time.

Does it have available PCI slots?
I don't think that video bios supports the given resolution...

I think these are supported:

- 1280x1024, 5:4 (1.25:1)

- 640x480, 4:3 (1.33:1)
- 800x600, 4:3 (1.33:1)
- 1024x768, 4:3 (1.33:1)
- 1152x864, 4:3 (1.33:1)
- 1280x960, 4:3 (1.33:1)
- 1400x1050, 4:3 (1.33:1)
- 1600x1200, 4:3 (1.33:1)
- 1792x1344, 4:3 (1.33:1)
- 1920x1440, 4:3 (1.33:1)
- 2048x1536, 4:3 (1.33:1)

- 1920x1200, 16:10 (1.60:1)

- 1280x768, 5:3 (1.67:1)

- 1280x720, 16:9 (1.78:1)
- 1600x900, 16:9 (1.78:1)
- 1920x1080, 16:9 (1.78:1)

- 1280x600, 17:8 (2.13:1)

Otherwise - you will need a different video card - and PCI video cards will
work well enough.

Thanks for your quick reply!

Yes, it appears that my chip set doesn't directly support 1680x1050,
however I found instructions for getting 1680x1050 to work with
another Intel chipset and was hoping someone would know how to do the
same with mine. (see below)

Thanks again!

-------

These instructions won't work with my card - does anyone know of a
similar trick for the Intel 8245?

1. Downloaded the newest drivers in zip format from intel's website
2. Edited the igxp32.inf file as follows:
a. Changed HKR,, TotalDTDCount, %REG_DWORD%, 0 to HKR,,
TotalDTDCount, %REG_DWORD%, 5
b. Changed HKR,, DTD_5,%REG_BINARY%,
00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00 ;Fifth DTD
to
HKR,, DTD_5,%REG_BINARY%, 79,39,90,40,62,1A,
25,40,68,B8,3,00,00,00,00,00,00,1C,37,01 ;Fifth DTD
3. Ran the setup.exe
4. Restarted the computer
5. changed the resolution to 1680x1050
6. Jumped for joy!
